The History of America's Favorite Car — the Chevrolet Corvette!

The Chevrolet Corvette entered onto the scene in 1953. The idea was to give traditional sport car companies, like Jaguar and MG a run for their money. The first Corvette was a sleek car decked out in white, red upholstery and black canvas roof. There wasn’t much in the way of options back then, but the car came with a radio and heater.

The car featured a Flame six cylinder engine. It had a reputation for reliability, but with a rating of 105 HP which made the car rather slow. There were several engine upgrades which eventually gave the car 150 bhp. This was achieved by incorporating side draft carburetors, new air cleaners and an alloy manifold.

1955 Corvette
The 1955 Corvette was fitted with a much improved ‘small block’ V8 engine. Production was reduced and only 700 cars were made this year. The focus was on high-performance and cost-efficiency, the small block Corvette is still known today as one of the best Corvette models made.

1956 Corvette
This year Chevrolet unveiled a new exciting body shape. The Corvette was fitted with outside door handles, optional hardtop and power windows. Exterior rim included chrome accents and side coves, which gave the car a sleek look. The engine was paired to a three-speed manual transmission; this gave the V8 engine 210 horsepower.  The buying public loved the car and it made its first appearance at Daytona Speedweeks.

1963 to 1967 Corvette C2
During the intervening years there were various design tweaks but the next new Corvette model did not appear until 1964. This was the year an entirely new body style that had a long, tapered front end. The car looked startling and was given the official nickname, ‘Sting Ray.’

1968 to 1982 Corvette C3
Sales had never been better the Corvette third generation was by far the most produced version of the vehicle with 540,000  manufactured. An important change occurred in 1970 with a more solid version of the old road block engine.  The 1971 model had to be adapted to reach new stringent government emission controls. The car remained unchanged into 1977, with the exception of features like a luggage rack.

1983 to 1996 Corvette C4
The 1984 model brought the flip up headlights and a new dashboard .The engine was a small block 350 V8 with a cross-fire fuel injection system that clocked out at 205 horsepower. 54.000 C4 Corvettes were sold although some criticized the car as having stiff steering. In 1987 Chevrolet introduced the Callaway twin-turbo option that produced 345 horsepower. However this was an optional extra.

1997 to 2004 Corvette C5
The Corvette C5 got a complete overhaul.  A year on and the convertible returned again. Later a hardtop version was released to satisfy those who wanted the best of both worlds.  2003 heralded the 50th anniversary of the Corvette and there was an anniversary edition made in a deep red finish but the power unit remained the same as the previous model.

2005 to 2013 Corvette C6 (sixth generation)
Instead of starting with a new model for the C6 generation, GM decided to build on an already successful model. The Corvette that was unveiled in 2005 came with a similar style as the C5’s but with a leaner look. The new V8 engine produced 400 horsepower. This car was cheaper than the previous model.

2014 Corvette Stingray
With its sculpted athletic exterior and driver-oriented cockpit, the most groundbreaking Corvette yet is a beautiful weapon against the ordinary. Lightweight aluminum space frame replaces steel. 7-speed transmission with Active Rev matching and 5 distinct driver modes ready for anything. 460 horsepower, 465 lb.-ft torque and a sophisticated LT1 engine that propels the Stingray from 0 to 70 in 3.8 seconds.

It is the quickest, most powerful, most capable standard Corvette ever made.

The Corvette has proven itself to be one of the most prestigious sports cars of all time. No doubt the name will be with us for years to come, and there will be several new generation models to whey the appetite.

Why the Chevrolet Equinox should be your next Crossover SUV

When searching for a crossover vehicle, there are many different features that are going to prove important to you. These features are going to be slightly different than if you were shopping around for a traditional SUV or sedan. If you were shopping for an SUV, you would want something large enough for six or seven people, with the capability of towing a large amount of weight, and proving you with a big engine. On the other hand, if you wanted a sedan, you most likely want something that is comfortable, safe, and improved gas mileage.

A crossover SUV is unique because it is a combination of the two different kinds of vehicles. As it is a combination, you are shopping for a crossover because you have different needs and requirements than someone with just a sedan or just an SUV might have.

The Chevrolet Equinox is the perfect All-American crossover SUV, providing you with the latest and most up-to-date features you are seeking in your next vehicle. When purchasing your Equinox at Castle Chevrolet, you also receive the Castle Difference Experience.

Price
One reason you are probably shopping for a crossover SUV is because you want something less expensive than a full sized SUV. With the Equinox, you receive exactly that. The vehicle, with an Invoice price of just over $23k, is one of the more affordable compact SUVs on the market today. You are obtaining the crossover SUV for a sticker price that is right around what you would pay for a sedan, yet you receive more space than what a car would offer you.

Safety
Safety is obviously an important feature for any car buyer. Some purchase a large SUV as it places the travelers further away from impact in the event of a crash, while others select a sedan because it is less likely to roll over and comes with an assortment of safety features. The Chevy Equinox provides you with the best of both worlds. First, it received the top "Good" rating in every single Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash test. It also received the top five-star rating for side crashes by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and four out of five stars for all other crash tests, including rollover. The vehicle also comes with driver, side head, side, passenger and rear head air bags (standard), on top of many other driving features. You are receiving the complete safety package.

Performance

While some sedans do have a V6 engine, most are not able to compare with the overall performance of an SUV, while the larger SUVs are also not able to compete when it comes to gas mileage. That is where the Chevrolet Equinox comes in handy as it is able to provide you desirable performance and exceptional gas mileage. The base Equinox, which is the FWD LS, offers 22 miles per gallon in the city and 32 miles per gallon on the highway. All of this comes with a gas/ethanol split engine, which means you can use both base engine types, depending on what sort of fuel works best for you. The vehicle also comes in an all wheel drive version, which is something you don't usually find in a sedan, so you can have improved driving performance when the conditions are not desirable (such as in the snow or rain). All of this, and your MPG remains at 22 and 29.

The Chevrolet Volt — Where you get the best of both worlds

If you are looking for the perfect hybrid vehicle, the Chevy Volt should be your next purchase. One of the only vehicles on the market that truly offers you the best of both worlds. You have electric capability, so depending on the distance of your drive, it is possible to never have to fill up. You also have the ability to fill up with gasoline, which is perfect for the longer road trips. Both options being extremely desirable, it offers you features that you simply would not find on a traditional all electric vehicle, or an all fuel-based vehicle.

When it comes to driving an electric vehicle, there are some problems that other electric vehicles have the Chevy Volt is able to bypass. All electric vehicles run into problems because the total drive capability is not very far. Many of these vehicles may have a total range of only 80 miles on average. While this is fine for someone who is only driving inside the city, or just to and from work. However it does not work for someone who gets stuck in traffic regularly, needs to run errands, or wants to drive long distances (locations further than an hour away).

For someone who owns an all electric vehicle, they have to either rent out a different vehicle, or own two vehicles, in order to make up the difference. The Chevrolet Volt does not have this problem. The Chevy Volt allows you to drive the vehicle for short distances on its 38 mile battery. You could be 20 miles from work every day, and never have to use gasoline. Suddenly you do have to drive further than 38 miles? No worries, the gasoline aspect of the vehicle kicks in, which in turn allows you to drive anywhere, regardless of where it may be!

Driving inside of the city is what drains the most fuel for fuel-based vehicles. The constant stopping and starting for these vehicles reduces the fuel-efficiency, resulting in requiring you to fill up regularly. Chicago has some of the highest gas prices in the country. For an unleaded vehicle — even if you only have to drive a few miles to work every day, you are going to end up paying to fill up your tank at least once a week.
Fortunately, you can reduce, and even eliminate that gas bill with the Chevy Volt. With the electric vehicle, city driving actually charges up the battery and allows it to drive further. The breaking helps create energy, which in turn is sent back into the battery. City drive is far better for electric vehicles as the MPG increases. In fact, with the volt electricity included, it is possible for the vehicle to receive up to around 98 MPG. This sort of improvement on performance is enough for anyone who wants to save money while they drive, and ultimately in the long run.

The Chevy Volt provides you with a combination of both fuel and electricity, essentially giving you the best of both worlds. You no longer have to fill up throughout the week due to short drives to work and Chicagoland traffic, nor do you have to stay close to home, because the fuel option capability always has your back. As does Castle Chevrolet. Come down to our showroom today to test drive the Volt. Electric when you want it, gas when you need it!

The All New 2014 Chevrolet Malibu ECO

Castle Chevrolet is proud to present the all new 2014 Chevrolet Malibu Eco as it hits the driving scene with luxury, sensibility and style.  It is referred to as the Eco because it has a specially designed combination of a standard ECOTEC direct injected four cylinder engine with 2.4 liters and a 15 horsepower electric motor. This mild hybrid system is referred to as the “eAssist”.

The Chevrolet Malibu Eco conserves gasoline when the eAssist technology employs its electric motor in certain driving situations for propulsion assistance. Other technologies work in tandem with the eAssist including regenerative braking, a lithium ion battery and stop-start functionality. The new stop-start technology employs innovative technology to help you save gas and power. Here’s how it works. The engine automatically shuts off when the car is stopped. The Malibu Eco immediately and seamlessly restarts when the brake pedal is released.  The result is lower emissions, excellent fuel economy and a satisfied driver.

The Eco's transmission is an electronically controlled six-speed automatic that allows the engine to operate at a lower rate of speed as compared to transmissions with fewer gears.  This results in better fuel economy. There is also a unique starter/alternator unit that is belt driven and powered through a lithium ion battery pack. This battery pack is mounted in the car's trunk but doesn't take up significant cargo space. The Eco gets 26 mpg in the city, 37 mpg on the highway and up to an impressive 560 highway miles with each fill-up

This year's Eco is aerodynamically designed, allowing air to flow around the vehicle with little resistance.

2014 Chevrolet Malibu Eco

The result is a sultry style as well as a pragmatic increase in fuel efficiency. The Eco sports an aluminum hood, an aluminum beam on the back bumper and light weight dash mats and carpet. Standard features include but are not limited to Chevy's MyLink infotainment system, heated mirrors, ice blue internal lighting and OnStar technology. Special equipment packages will be offered in four styles: Power Convenience, Premium Audio, Leather and Navigation.

Simply put, the Eco provides a refined driving experience.  It accelerates with ease, allowing the driver to pass other vehicles with speed and control. The Eco's driver will easily forget that he is operating a vehicle with a hybrid engine system. There's acoustic glass and materials with superior sound insulation.

The result is a luxuriously peaceful ride for all of the Eco's occupants.

The 2014 Chevrolet Malibu Eco is the one of the best in its class when it comes to safety.  Features include but are not limited to:
